Pessimism and negativity are out, positivity and optimism are in: if I declare this to be true, that means it’ll be true, right? LOL, I wish! While I can’t snap my fingers and get rid of all the world’s negative Nancys and pessimistic depressed masses, what I CAN do is tell you about why cultivating a positive imaginary and worldview (and default perspective) isn’t spiritual bypassing (or bullshit), and about how it can and absolutely will make you a happier, healthier person. Will you join me in making sincerity and earnestness and optimism cool again?
Read MoreIn this episode I discuss one of the most important qualities in successful, happy, and growth oriented people: curiosity! I’ve noticed that in the past decade or so, it’s been significantly on the decline. I also talk about the rise of abstracting people into symbols, rather than listening/observing to see who people actually are. It’s become normal to dehumanize people with a different perspective, and this concerns me due to its potential implications for the future of democracy and the future of human relationships. Are you open to the idea that there are things you don’t know? Are you open to the idea that you could be wrong? Are you able to step off your moralistic high ground and consider things logically, rather than simply in an emotionally activated way? A very in-depth and important episode for today’s current political climate, especially in Canada and the United States. Curiosity impacts all aspects of our lives in a positive, growthy way.
Read MoreBelieve it or not, the title of this podcast episode is something Jordan Peterson said at a recent lecture I attended. He was speaking on personal growth and self improvement from a Christian lens, but when I heard those words, my own worldview and cosmology - which place an enormous emphasis on witchcraft - came to mind. To me, it's such a witchy phrase! In this episode, I explain what this phrase means to me, why I relate it to how witchcraft and magic work, and what the intentional self-loving, self-improvement oriented witch can take from the phrase as we build our spiritual practice and ourselves. (And in the back of my mind, I can't help but wonder - is Jordan Peterson a witch?)
Read MoreHey y'all! Happy eclipse season! In this episode, I talk a little bit about the eclipse portal we're currently in, how I'm working with it as a Virgo rising, how important it is to try new things, challenge ourselves, be open to being wrong, be open to new ideas, and - crucially - being and staying curious.
Read MoreAs therapy speak becomes more common, I've noticed that many people have a total misunderstanding of what boundaries actually are. People will complain about 'boundaries' when other people don't behave how they want them to. But - newsflash - boundaries are at their core really about US, and our behaviour: the one thing we do have control over. In this episode, I talk about what boundaries are, and how best to think about and enact them.
Read MoreThis Thursday, we have a full moon in Virgo total lunar eclipse that is visible in North America. In this episode, I'll talk about what these energies swirling around mean for us personally, what to expect, why to view the eclipse if you can, and how to make the best of the potent energetic shifts we'll experience this eclipse season.
Read MoreI had a great time at my first ever podcasting conference and event: Podcamp Toronto! In this episode, I share a bit about what I learned, and share thoughts on some conversations/themes present in the podcasting space, including corporate vs DIY, YouTube and video-based podcasts, how people self-sabotage by never starting (and always leaving it til later), why I love chatting with strangers in hallways (and am always pleasantly surprised by who they turn out to be), and where some of the big knowledge can be found at these events. Should I apply next year to speak? What do you guys think? Did I leave anything out that you'd like me to address? Let me know!
Read MoreI've noticed an unsettling pattern in many astrology creators and influencers today: a tendency to leave everything 'transformational' in the future, that the next big thing is always around the corner, we just have to wait for everything to change signs and then boom. In this episode, I share some criticisms and worries about what kind of mindset and approach to life this 'passive' attitude towards astrology and spirituality create, and why I think witchcraft does a better job of - should we choose it - connecting us with our own personal power, agency, and efficacy to create change.
Read MoreFor many, it can be so tempting to live a secret life. Being our true, honest selves can be scary: will anyone accept us in our mess? Will we get called out by friends and family for behaving badly or acting out of line? Would anyone truly love us if they knew all our kinks, desires, mistakes, and ugly points? When no one knows who we truly are, we insulate and isolate ourselves. When our friends, family, and community don't know who we actually are behind closed doors or what we're going through, it's easy to delude ourselves that everything is all good. Self-isolation is an unhealthy avoidance tactic: when we do this, we avoid both the possibility for true love and acceptance (and growth), and also having to be accountable (and perhaps make amends) for who we truly are. In this episode, I talk about why it's so much better to live an honest, transparent and vulnerable life, than one hidden in the darkness and the shadows.
Read MoreThis episode is about testing out our internal algorithms, our standard operating procedures, and the rules and regulations by which we lead our lives. I outline four of the main ways we - in my opinion - create these rules, and I discuss a recent example of breaking one of my own long-standing rules, how that went, and what I learned. What are the rules that create the boundaries of your own life? This episode will give you a lot to think about as you ponder your own life and circumstances.
Read MoreIn this episode, I talk about the importance of consistency, predictability, and reliability in all relationships, but especially romantic ones. Consistency creates emotional safety and trust in relationships, which creates more space for authentic intimacy to blossom. Listen to learn more about why this is so important. (And, side note: this isn't about perfectionism, but rather healthy emotionality and relating.)
Read MoreFriends! Welcome to 2025! In this upcoming year of the snake (!) I talk about why this year should be your villain era - especially if you're freaked out by the idea. Also, psst, we are back to our original podcast name, woohoo! Expect this to be the podcast's forever title; at the top of the show, I explain what all went down and why there have been so many changes.
Read MoreIn this era of political polarization and a very interesting lack of empathy and intellectual openness, it's especially important to examine our own rhetorical styles as well as that of others. What typical appeals/arguments do people use? Do they appeal to extreme emotion, or to their own identity? In this episode, I use a recent dinner I had with two lefty New Yorkers as a jumping off point to discuss effective (and ineffective) ways of discussing ideas. I provide critiques, offer suggestions, and end with a provocative challenge to my listeners.
Read MoreWhy release a poetry book about healing from sexual violence and rape almost 11 years to the day after the fact? In this episode of the Claim Your Magic podcast with Sabrina Scott, I talk about my brand new (and first ever) collection of poems, why I'm releasing it now, and how creativity can help us heal from the traumas we've been through.
Read MoreGotta love a totally counterintuitive podcast episode title, haha! In this episode I talk all about how my first Kickstarter attempt failed big time, and why within 1 minute of giving up on it and hitting cancel...I created a new one, incorporating lessons learned. Fear of failure can be paralyzing, and a sign of trauma - movement through failure helps uplift us. In this episode, I talk about how! And psst: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sabrinascott/bodymagic
Read MoreIn this episode, I talk about the relationship between authenticity and loss, and how they are truly inseparable and intertwined. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I also discuss the importance of honouring others in their authenticity, even if it means they aren’t for us and we aren’t for them.
Read MoreSomehow the thing my haters love to dunk on me the most is how I’ve had plastic surgery. Yes I have! And I have absolutely no shame about it. In this episode I talk about why plastics are soooo triggering to some people, the nature of authenticity, and how we can see plastics (and other stuff) as intentional acts of self-creation.
Read MoreHaven’t learned to love Mercury Retrograde yet?! Well, in this episode I chat a bit about some reasons why ya should; and how you can spend this time in a way that is restful, rejuvenating, and productive.
Read MoreHi friends! I hope you’ve enjoyed these first few days of March. It’s sunny as hell here in Toronto, and I’ve begun by doing a complete reset and reorganization of my space. In this episode I talk about spring cleaning as a form of magic and energetic refresh and reset, and I also get into a little of what disturbed me so much last week that I couldn’t do my weekly tarot over on YouTube. The TLDR, radicalism and the celebration of hurting one self has disturbed me so much, and I share some thoughts on that as well.
Read MoreHappy lunar new year + new moon folks! In this episode I talk about how this energy is a fresh vibe (and what to do with it), what I decided to do for lunar new year (launch a brand new membership and community), aaaand of course some inspo from David Goggins (because why not).
